Mel C has revealed that it’s a “bit awkward” between her and her Spice Girls bandmates after she turned down another reunion.
The group, who are one of the most famous girl bands in history, are reuniting to mark 20 years since the release of debut Wannabe but only Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown and Geri Horner are actually involved with Mel C and Victoria Beckham opting out.
“It’s a bit awkward at the moment to be honest,” Mel said during an interview with the Mail on Sunday newspaper’s Event magazine. “It’s going to be, isn’t it? But I do know we’ll get past it.”
In the interview she hinted that she was offered a “couple of million pounds” to be part of the reunion but revealed the things she went through previously in the band put her off a reunion.
“When the Spice Girls were at their biggest, I couldn’t even really look at myself in the mirror because I didn’t like what I saw,” she added. “Depression, eating disorders, obsessive over-exercising; I went through all of it. It just didn’t feel right to go back.”
The girls also reunited previously for a tour and performed at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics and Mel thinks they should have left it there.
“I loved what we did as the Spice Girls and part of me will be Sporty Spice until I die. We had one reunion (in 2007) and I didn’t want to do that,” she admitted.
“But I was talked round and it was the right thing to do, we had a great time and then we played at the closing ceremony for the Olympics in 2012. That to me was where (the Spice Girls) should have been laid to rest. Sometimes you just have to say no.”
