Kylie Minogue has revealed she and fiance Joshua Sasse will not get hitched until same-sex marriage is legalised in her native Australia.
The singer met the British actor on the set of his TV show Galavant in 2015 and they announced their engagement in The Times newspaper in February (16) after a whirlwind romance.
Reports have since went on to suggest the couple have secretly got married or will marry Down under this year but these are not true and in fact Kylie announced on Twitter on Thursday (06Oct16) she will not be walking down the aisle until same-sex couples can do so too.
“Beau @joshuasasse #loveislove… We can say ‘I Do’ when you can too!” she tweeted while sharing a video of Joshua discussing his new marriage equality campaign on Australian TV show Sunrise.
During the interview, Joshua said, “Kylie and I have talked about it and we are not comfortable getting married until this law is passed… it’s something we’ve talked about and decided upon and I wanted to tell you today on her behalf and our behalf that until this law is passed, we will not be getting married.”
Many celebrities have backed his campaign too with people like Margot Robbie, Dolly Parton and Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters lending their support.
Joshua explained why he started it on Sunrise, saying, “I was astounded to find that out earlier this year. I thought that if I didn’t know about it, I’m sure there are millions of people across the world that don’t.
“I simply can’t fathom… that I have the right to get married to the person I love and somebody else doesn’t just because of their sexual orientation. That is not what equality is all about.”
It is believed that a vote on same-sex marriage will take place on 11 February 2017.
