The Oscars saw a huge blunder take place last night (26/02/17) when Warren Beaty and Faye Dunaway accidently announced La La Land as the winner of Best Picture instead of Moonlight.
The whole cast and crew had made their way on stage before the mistake was clarified which made the whole situation very awkward indeed.
Warren and Faye insisted that they were handed the wrong and now the accountancy firm which handles the award envelopes has released a statement on behalf of The Oscars which reads:
“We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for best picture.”
“The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation.” said PricewaterhouseCoopers, which has overseen the Academy’s ballot-counting process for 83 years.
