Katy Perry has been officially confirmed as a judge on the American Idol reboot.
ABC bosses confirmed the news during their 2017 Upfront Presentation in New York on Tuesday (16May17).
Katy meanwhile said in a statement: “I am honoured and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the American Idol tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories,”
“I’m always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough – from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music.”
It is believed that Perry will be joined by former Idol finalist Chris Daughtry on the new show when it returns to TV later this year (17), although his name has not yet been announced.
It is also believed that Idol winner Carrie Underwood is negotiating a return as a judge after meeting with producers and ABC network executives.
